Tutorial Speaker: Emily Myers of Cavendishscott.com
Tutorial Abstract:
This is about how to audit a calibration department, and covers
information about traceability to NIST, the difference between a
manufacture's cert and calibration cert, calibration records, frequency
of calibration and FAQs about calibration. I will also prepare
handouts of those questions. My background is Metrology. I have quite
a bit of experience with temperature, pressure, dimensional, humidity,
and torque calibrations. I have had training directly from NIST and
NCSL.
Tutorial Bio: Emily currently works for Cavendish Scott, Inc. as a Lead
Auditor and manages the Internal Audit program, as well as teaching all
ISO 9001:2008 IRCA accredited Lead Auditor Training classes, and the
Internal Auditor training classes for Platinum Registration and perform
the registration audits as well.

- Doug Peariso is President of Contemporary Process Solutions LLC
(Windsor, Colorado) an independent consulting firm offering expertise
to food companies in delivering sustainable product safety and business
improvements. He is also the Proprietor of Long's Peak Laboratories
LLC (Severance, CO) which is a new venture offering affordable physical
testing, product assessment and development activities to manufacturers
and retailers of consumer products.
- Previously Peariso held roles in both quality assurance and
manufacturing operations with companies such as Campbell Soup, Clorox
and Gerber Products. During his tenure at Gerber Products Peariso
oversaw several key areas of their business. As the Senior Quality
Assurance Manager he was responsible for the oversight of the quality
systems and personnel within Gerber's North American food manufacturing
facilities (comprising more than 80 percent of the domestic baby food
category). In 2004 Peariso authored the textbook, "Preventing Foreign
Material Contamination of Foods" (Blackwell Publishing). He is also a
member of the Food Safety Magazine Editorial Advisory Board. Peariso
achieved ASQ Certification as a Six Sigma Black Belt and a Hazard
Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Auditor and is currently
the Vice Chair of ASQ section 1309

You might have been affected by unemployment yourself, or have family
members, friends or neighbors that are in active job search. You might
be curious to know what you are actually worth in the market, or you
are exploring alternative career options. No matter what the reason,
together we will take a look at resources, tools and methods available
for people in job search.
Tutorial Bio:
Tanja Beshear is a Product Stability Group Leader at Covidien. She has
over 20 years of Quality Management experience in high-tech design and
manufacturing, working for multi-national corporations (Siemens,
Infineon, OSRAM, JDSU) as well as for successful start-ups. Tanja was
in active job search after being laid off from JDSU in November 2008,
while the stock market was in free fall. She successfully transitioned
from the data/telecom industry into her current position in medical
devices.

The quality game we will be playing has been tried and constantly
improved our Boulder ASQ section. It gives participants a chance
to hear how others in and around the quality arena have dealt with
problems in their careers. The new improvements allow participants
to take risks like they would in their real jobs and deal with the
consequence of the decisions they make. Life often deals with us
unfairly, but we continue to learn from our mistakes.
Sometimes the risks we take we gain advantage from while others set
us back.

Bio:
Guy Harris is involved with Quality for over 30 years.
A member of ASQ since 1994. He holds 5 ASQ certifications:
CQA, CBA, CQE, CSQE and CQM.
Presently employed by Sandhill Scientific as A QA/QC/Customer-Service
Manager working in all areas of quality and regulatory affairs.
Began career as an Electrical Design Engineer with a degree from the
University of Texas at Austin. Experience in the aerospace industry,
contract engineering and medical device manufacturing of class I,
class II and class III products

The application of quality tools started in manufacturing and helped
many industrial companies succeed. Pioneers in the field found that
quality tools were able to make the transition to help other sectors
of the American economy, including service companies, government
agencies, and educational institutions.
But what about research? What can quality tools do to help R&D
personnel succeed? Come to the February meeting and hear about the
practice of quality at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL),
the nation's flagship organization for advancing the science of
technology of renewable energy
Feature Bio:
GARY VANSUCH is Principal Administrator, Quality at the National
Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado. He has over 30
years of business improvement experience in the energy and financial
services industries. Gary is a Senior Member of ASQ and the Project
Management Institute (PMI). Over the years, he has served ASQ in
several different capacities, including as Chair of the Service Quality
Division; Chair of the Ishikawa Medal Selection Committee; and Judge
for the International Team Excellence Award. He also served 6 years
with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award program, including 4
years as a Senior Examiner and as a member of the Case Study
Development Team.
