Comments:
From: Joe Wojniak
Thanks for attending the section meeting this past Thursday.
I would like to extend special thanks to the presenters, Gary Deniston and
Guy Harris, for giving us great overviews on the Weibayes equations and
an overview of the medical device industry.
I hope you enjoyed the section meeting as much as I did! If you did not,
please offer constructive criticism and we will make efforts to incorporate
  it into future meetings.
For those recertifying this December, there are 3 meetings left
(at 0.6 RU*3 = 1.8 RU). If you’re coming up short, let us know and we can
look for opportunities for RU earning activities.
Several managers mentioned having openings and I hope they had a chance to
exchange information with those seeking opportunities.
Let me know if you did not get at least 1 lead per opening (and vice versa -
if you are looking and did not get a lead, please reply to this email).
I have always been impressed with opportunities in the quality profession
in all economic conditions. It was mentioned that within the past year or
so that we’ve gone from about half the attendees present were seeking jobs
to most attendees present being employed. That is great!
Remember - the best time to get a new job is when you already have one!
Keep an eye for new opportunities, and always ask yourself - "Am I
  under-employed?"
There are also opportunities outside of work to gain new experience and earn
a little dough - we are currently needing a Certified Quality Inspector
Instructor. You need to hold (or gain) the CQI and put together a review
class outline. Most prep classes take at least 3 sessions to cover the
material. Please keep in mind that people seeking CQI are working
inspectors - they are not really looking for help on measurement methods
themselves but need help preparing for the exam. Any exam can be
intimidating and if you’re experienced in exam preparation and test
taking then all you need is the CQI to be an instructor. Do not be
intimidated by lack of experience! Learn by doing! Please let me know
if you are interested in teaching the CQI preparation sessions and I will
talk to section leadership to see if we can meet in the middle.
Thanks for being the Voice of Quality!

The economy, the environment and the geopolitical climate aren't the only sources of the seismic shifts occurring in the world today. At work, we're dealing with a whole new paradigm for getting work done in the 21st century. Years ago, working people complained about being on the hook for their results without having the functional authority to match. Nowadays, accountability for enormous projects with zero management authority is the norm! How do we manage through influence? What new skills will allow us to grow and deploy our influence on the job? National workplace expert and former Fortune 500 Human Resources exec Liz Ryan will teach participants how to achieve big results without a lofty title or a corner office. You'll learn how to 'spin the table' and sell your ideas and plans internally from the "buyer's" point of view, how to get people across functions and units to band together with you, and how to become an influential thought leader in your place of business. Feature Bio: Join us for this lively session that will change your most strongly- held beliefs about your power (or lack of) at work! Liz Ryan is one of the country's most widely-read and well-respected career and workplace authorities, whose columns for Business Week Online, Yahoo!, Glassdoor.com, Workforce Review, the Huffington Post and other publications reach over 65 million readers per month.
